Anaesthesiology, anaesthesia or anaesthetics is the medical speciality that focuses on perioperative medicine and the administration of anaesthesia.

One of the fundamental practices of anaesthesiologists is that of general anaesthesia in which a person is placed in a medical coma. This is performed to permit surgery without the individual responding to pain (analgesia) during surgery.

If general anaesthesia is not necessary, then regional anaesthesia can be performed to induce analgesia in a region of the body. For example, epidural administration of a local anaesthetic is commonly performed on the mother during childbirth to reduce the pain while permitting the mother to be awake and active in labor & delivery (general anaesthesia would not permit this).

Anaesthesia department has staff of 6 M.D. Anaesthetists. We give all types of anaesthesia like general anaesthesia, spinal anaesthesia, epidural blocks as and when required. All patients are given anaesthesia with complete monitoring (multipara monitor) for major, minor, supra major, planned and emergency surgeries. Post operative care is given in well equipped recovery room.

The department of Anaesthesiology aims at training medical students and to provide quality care to patients. The experienced faculty members manage the department and impart knowledge and clinical skills to the medical graduates. The attached teaching Hospital has 7 Operation Theatres which are well equipped with all anaesthesia equipments along with ICU care facilities to enable students to have deep insight into the clinical problems related to the specialty. Facilities to carry out routine OT operations along with 24 hours emergency services are available. The department has facilities to take up all type of Anaesthesia procedures and resuscitative measures.
