General Medicine


General medicine or Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Doctors specializing in General medicine are called physicians. It is a subject of third MBBS part-II (Final MBBS).


The Medicine department at Dr M. K. Shah Medical College and Research Centre runs OPD on daily basis on all the working days. Patients are given indoor care as and when required in respective male and female wards. This department also checks fitness of the patients before any major or minor operations whenever required. This department provides emergency care for the patients for 24 hours on all the days of week.

This is a busy department which handles Outdoor, Indoor and Emergency Room. In addition, training is imparted to MBBS students by consultants specializing in different aspects like General Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology and Pulmonology.

The department manages a variety of chronic medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac diseases, renal failures, neurological complication, arrythmias, dyselectrolytemia, septicaemia etc. special clinics like Diabetes Clinic, Hypertension Clinics, Asthma Clinics etc. are also in place where all facilities are provided under single window.Patients requiring urgent attention and intensive care are treated in Medical ICU, ICCU etc.
